Can I take back what I said about Huckabee? He's crazy. How vigorous must one's bigotry be to want to reshape the Constitution to conform to it?
What is with all the candidates having to prove how aggressive they are? Whether it's the terrorists or the immigrants or each other, virtually every candidate is behaving as though the single most important quality in a president is willingness to spoil for a fight.
It's embarrassing to watch so many intelligent and educated people admitting that belligerence is all they they have to offer.

ReplyDeleteFairly vigorous, and I think wanting to rewrite the laws so everyone has to follow "God's" law is a common human impulse. That's why the writers of the Constitution put so much effort into separating church and state; they were actively trying to neutralize that tendency in government.
I'd like to be a Canadian now, please. Even your right-wingers seem tame compared to our guys.

ReplyDeleteWhat really pleases me, however, is that they are that way because they couldn't get elected in Canada if they weren't.
I heard an interesting report once from a guy who apparently had covered Huckabee extensively in the past. He said that he's a really charming guy on the surface, very affable and engaging and funny. That lasts until you get to know him. Then he can be a mean spirited, spiteful, tit-for-tat bastard. But you know, he's still a great candidate for Pres.
