Choice phrases from student essays:
"As Thomas Aquinas and other 17th century thinkers argued..."
[in a discussion of the pre-Revolution French aristocracy] "Because of the atmosphere of sexual repressiveness..."
[on the first novel written in French] "The author skillfully subverts the novelistic conventions..."
"I would like to argue that T.S. Eliot is a Modernist poet." [does that really need to be argued?]
"History is the inescapable fact of the historical novel."
Sigh...........

Damn those inescapable facts anyway! You just can't get around them...hence their inescapability. (what's my word count now?)
I'm thinking maybe they should dump the "thesis" idea and just write a list instead.
