No, *This* Is What Going Mad Feels Like
I read in the paper today that perrenial presidential candidate and professional racist Jean-Marie le Pen gave a long speech in Lille about...the environment.
I had to read the article four or five times. It was for real--le Pen said that the environment should be a top priority. And he didn't even blame global warming on the Algerians (quelle surprise, non?). Well, he almost didn't blame it on the Algerians. There was still some ugly rhetoric regarding immigration and how it was the ruination of the country.
But the environment?
Seriously, I don't have any commentary to offer or even any point I'm trying to make. It's just weird.

Jean-Marie Pen is a grubbily sweaty, beady-eyed, hollow-headed, wilfully antagonistic, fat-faced, clammy-handed, hatred-spewing, flatulently incoherent, shoe-brained, monomaniacal bastard - allegedly. (just in case any of his lawyers are reading this, hmm?)
And whilst my gentle reflections don't in any way address the issues you raise - the perplexing surrealism and barminess of Le Pen twittering on about the environment - I still feel perfectly justified in saying what I just did. I just do, okay?
His lumbering presence and bewilderingly fat head cause birds - eagles, Feemus - to drop dead from the sky in shock. And the potent stench that clings to each and every one of his ill-chosen words has been known to make shite lose all hope of a re-match. I'm just saying.
I could go on.

Yes, he is a very bad man. It is disturbing how much influence the National Front has (and how many immigrants support it, which is just crazy).
Although he IS my trump card for talking politics with French friends. As soon as I am tired of being held responsible for the war (which I have NEVER supported, but which they nontheless hold me resposible), I just ask what percentage of the vote le Pen got in the last election. It's VERY effective.

Very glad to hear that Le Pen serves at least one useful function, Feemus. It is tiresome how all Americans are so broadly tarred with the same brush. This, to me, is nothing more than blind and unthinking prejudice.
Sorry for ranting on last time, but Le Pen and his ilk simply disgust me and leave me feeling utterly depressed. And you're right, it is very disturbing that this man and his party can have such an influence and so many followers. A very funny and effective stick to beat the French with, nevertheless.
Kind regards etc....
