It's Like Deja-Vu All Over Again
So, the US is pressuring the Iraqi government to help crack down on Kurdish rebels in Turkey.
Remember way back to Gulf War #1? When Bush Sr. told the Kurds they should rebel against Saddam Hussein? And then when they did rebel, we totally abandoned them? We were all "Kurd who, now? How did you get this number?"
First we tell Iraqi Kurds to rebel and don't support them. Then we tell Iraq to aid in the suppression of Turkish Kurds. Want to start the pool on when the Kurds start trying to kill us?
You know, because they hate freedom.
Ngo Dinh Diem.
Saddam Hussein.
The Khmer Rouge.
Mujahideen.
How many more groups are we going to support out of expedience without thinking through the long term effects?

Its the same thing over and over and over again. I fully support the Kurds trying to eek out a small piece of oil-funded sanity in a huge desert wasteland of stupid, crazy fuckers. The small minority that are going into Turkey and fuckign shit up, yeah those guys arent so cool. But either you back democracy and groups trying to form up a country or you don't. Blowback isn't just a street term for a new prostitution trick folks.
One of my first predicitons when Bush was getting his hard on for humping Al Qaeda in Iraq all those years ago was that one way or another, Turkey was gonna wind up going in to fuck up the Kurds and keep them from forming their own country. A sort of US approved ethnic cleansing in the north of Iraq.
As Lando said, 'This deal is getting worse all the time.' Except, of course the 'deal' was pure, unadulterated SHIT to begin with. So whats worse than shit? um...looking at my feedreader, I'd have to guess Antibiotic Resistant Super Staph Infected Shit.

"Either you back democracy...or you don't."
That pretty much sums it up.
And note to Bush: calling your country a democracy doesn't mean your actions are democratic.
Better cc that memo to Olmert.
